I was inspired by Rebecca Louise Law ‘Iris’ exhibition at Now Gallery, 2016. The Now Gallery is built on marsh land, and the Iris is a marsh flower so in some respects it is displayed in the correct location. However, it is within a gallery setting, therefore out of place. I liked the idea of displaying artefacts out of context, but in a way, which could evoke memories of a particular place. Interestingly, I was drawn to the memory of the flower which has been synthetically altered but within its natural location. Design Boom observed, “viewers are given the opportunity to engage with the stages of life and decay, observing the process of preservation and artist’s ongoing exploration of ephemerality”. (Azzarello, 2017)
Capturing the transience of life is prominent within the concept behind my design
work.
